"Why I banned Traditional Rulers from speaking English" - Rochas Okorocha
OPINION: While some political pundits had a field-day in the news that Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, banned traditional rulers from speaking English in public, the Governor himself is playing into the commotive hysteria of what seemed to many as political dictatorship when he, so far, has not issued a follow-up statement in that regard.
His point was very clear and explicitly reasonable. We can all agree that it was the most logical thing to do in effort to safeguard the rapidly dying culture of the people amidst the desertion of the traditional character by those who are supposedly the custodians of tradition.
Language speaks volumes and to be a traditional ruler of a particular culture and yet make use of a foreign tongue to communicate those values is a shameful venture and only a well meaning person can call that to order.
At least now, we will know the difference between a traditional ruler and a Local Government Chairman.
