The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has described as speculative reports that the strike embarked by the union over the inability of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement it willingly entered with the union would be called off today. ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said he was surprised about the reports making the round when the issues tabled before the government had not been resolved. Five hundred and forty Nigerians are set for deportation from Libya, beginning from Aug. 10, Mrs. Julie Okah-Donli, Director-General, National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons(NAPTIP), has said. Okah-Donli disclosed this on Wednesday in Osogbo, at the inauguration of the North-West Zonal Command Office of the agency. She said that the deportees would be brought back to Nigeria in three batches of 180 each. The NAPTIP boss said that more than 2000 Nigerians were deported from various part of the world from February till date, over various migration offences, including human trafficking. Okah-Doni disclosed that the agency had rescued and supported more than 12,000 victims of human trafficking, and also secured 325 convictions since its inception in 2003. The US has cautiously raised concern over Russia's alleged interference in last year's presidential election and its effect on relations between the two nations. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Monday that he told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Moscow's meddling in the vote created "serious mistrust" between the two countries. Mauritanians have voted to abolish their senate and alter their national flag by referendum, the electoral commission announced on Sunday, in a clear victory for President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz the day after the vote. US State Secretary Rex Tillerson has said Washington is not trying to topple Kim Jong-Un's regime in North Korea, but Pyongyang must halt its nuclear missile programme.
