United Arab Emirates Accused of Hacking Qatari Websites
Sources familiar with the Government's position about the latest hacking of Qatari websites have said Officials believe the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was responsible for the hack. An accusation debunked as false by top UAE officials.
The alleged hack of Qatari websites which has heightened diplomatic tensions with Doha, the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said on Monday that no party should further aggravate the situation.
In London, Anwar Gargash said "the UAE would not escalate its boycott by asking companies to choose between doing business with it or with Qatar".
Meanwhile, an affiliate of Vodafone Group said today that access to its network was being badly affected by technical issues as a result.
“The company is working to resolve the issue,’’ Vodafone Qatar tweets on its official Twitter handle. According to Reuters many Vodafone customers complain of service interruptions, that they were unable to make or receive phone calls early days of this development.
While the spokesman for Vodafone Qatar did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the State-controlled Ooredoo also serves Qatar’s mobile communications market.
It could be recalled that recently, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut diplomatic and transport ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing it of supporting terrorism, a claim which Qatar denies.
